G-d's intention was that there would be one single redemption, the redemption from Egypt. So what went wrong? After the Jews heard the first two commandments, it was so overwhelming for them that they all died and were subsequently resurrected by G-d. They had already entered into the threshold of the Messianic era, where death is abolished. The sin of the Golden Calf returned the damage to the world.
